Legendary exhibition reconstructed - models in the scale of 1:50

The Stockholm Exhibition in 1930 marks the breakthrough of modernism, not only in Sweden but in all Scandinavian countries. Allthough the exhibition had a major and ever lasting impact on society documentation was very poor. In order to re-experience the architecture from the exhibition, students from Chalmers Deartment of Architecture undertook the task of reconstruction the pavilions and houses from The Housing Section. Head of design for the Stockholm Exhibition was Gunnar Asplund. Other luminaries involved were Sven Markelius, who's connection to Germany and Gropius played an important role, together with Sigurd Lewerentz and Uno Åhren. The reconstruction resulted in a deeper understanding of the architecture, emphasizing qualities that were hidden to the eye without the models. The project was part of Chalmers' research ”Architecture in the Making”, funded by Formas 2011-2016.
